New Manchester ConcertBand (FAME BAND II)

ABOUT.
The Beginning Band/Intermediate Band course is also known as the Concert Band. This group is also known as the FAME BAND II class. The class rigor and expectations are high as the students will be working all, but not limited to, the following:
  • 12 Major Scales at full range of their instrument
  • Sight Reading Methods
  • Grade IV/V literature
  • Solo & Ensemble Performances
  • Music Theory
  • Intermediate/Advanced instrumental techniques

This is a class for students that were accepted into the FAME program. Students in the FAME band are to participate in the major ensembles for the fall and spring semesters as described in the FAME and band handbooks.
REQUIREMENTS.​
  • FAME Audition for band placement
  • Working instrument and supplies needed for rehearsals and performances.
  • Strong work ethic and personal discipline 
  • Private instruction (as needed)
  • Minimum of 3hrs of non-NMHS practice logged weekly.
  • Students must attend all county level and district level honor band auditions.
    • Students interested in district auditions will pass off with Mr. Chester prior to registration.
  • 11th and 12th grade students must attend a minimum of one GMEA solo and ensemble evaluation in a school year.
    • Dates are available from Mr. Chester.
  • Attendance and on time to all rehearsals and performances.
  • Keep and maintain a band portfolio.
  • Performance attire (rental or purchased)
DIGITAL INTEGRATION . 
All FAME band classes will utilize Smartmusic and Practice First as supplemental learning for class.
  • Smartmusic is a subscription service. All students will need to be signed up and in the class prior to the end of band summer camp. The classroom code will be posted on the BAND app and in the band room.
  • Marching band music, method books, and some concert music will available to practice. Some will be issued as assignments to complete.

  • Music First is an online platform that is supplied by DCSS. Students will gain access during the first week of class.
  • Music first will be used to help with sight reading and theory objectives.
  • Students are required to log a minimum of 1.5 hours of sight reading practice a week.

  • Tuner & metronome
    • Free Smartphone app
  • Pencil(s)
