Marcus K. Rayner

Currently serving as the Director of Bands for the Dublin City Schools and Dublin High School, Marcus K. Rayner is one of the most inspiring and positive music educators and musicians within music education. Prior to his position at Dublin High School, Mr. Rayner was the Director of Bands at Ware County High School for a year and Washington County High School for 8 years where his bands received several superior ratings at LGPE and with the Marching Bands. Mr. Rayner has been the Director of Bands at Treutlen Middle High School in Soperton, GA, Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge, Georgia, and Alfred Ely Beach High School in Savannah, Georgia. Mr. Rayner also served as the Associate Director of Bands at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Georgia for five years. Throughout this time, Mr. Rayner has devoted his career to educating students in music on and off the podium to bring advocacy, awareness, and appreciation for the arts throughout many communities.
Mr. Rayner worked towards his Masters in Music degree with an emphasis in Instrumental Conducting at Georgia Southern University, where he also received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education in 2001. He is currently finishing his Masters in Music Education at Georgia College and State University while also working towards Gifted & International Baccalaureate certification. Mr. Rayner has served as a band adjudicator for various marching band competitions in Georgia and has served as a percussion coordinator for the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) All-State Band for over 15 years. Mr. Rayner has arranged, consulted, and served as a clinician for many band programs and Drum & Bugle Corps within the state of Georgia and Florida. Mr. Rayner recently presented during the 2022 GMEA In-Service Conference, “Act Like a Band Director…Think Like an Administrator” as well as at the 2021 GMEA In-Service Virtual Conference with the session “The Band Director GPS.” Earlier in his career, Mr. Rayner presented at the 2008 GMEA Conference in Savannah, GA, with the session, “The Pit is NOT the Pits!” In addition, Mr. Rayner has served on the GACE Bias committee, the GACE passing score committee for the state of Georgia in Music Education. In addition, Mr. Rayner served as a parent chaperone for the Bands of America Marching Honor Band for the 2021 Tournament of Roses Parade with his son on trumpet and daughter on alto saxophone. Mr. Rayner is married to Kimberly Rayner (23 years) and now has six loving children, Madelynn, Marcus II, Malcolm, Matthew, Micah, and Madecynn. Min. Rayner currently serves as the Minister of Music at Turkey Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dublin and has served as the Minister of Music at San Clair Missionary Baptist Church in Wadley, GA. He is also a Senior Minister of Music with the Baxley Kingdom Church of Christ, HUTL of Baxley, Georgia, which is also his hometown. Marcus is an active member of GMEA, PAGE, NAFME, and PAS. Marcus also enjoys working and recording on several gospel and jazz albums. Being a mentor to students, educating students, and performing music abroad is one of Mr. Rayner’s great passions.
